Ioseph, The sonne of Iacob the Patriarke, was through enuie solde by his brethren vnto a marchaunt, who brought him into Aegipt, and gane him to Putiphar, greate mayster of housholde with king Pharao, whose wife burning in concupiscence, because Ioseph woulde not committe adulterie with hir, caused him to be cast into prison, where hee declaring to the kings cupbearer the signification of his dreame, was afterward by the same cupbearer remÊbred vnto king Pharao, when he had dreamed a oreame, whiche he woulde haue expounded. And he expounding the kings dreame, was inade high steward of his realme. So that by his moste excellent wisedome, sh aboundaunce of graine was brought into the kings barnes, and there kept during the vii. plentifull yeares, that the vii. yeares of scarcitie next insuing, it sufficed not onely to relieue all the people of Aegipt, but also refreshed other countreys, and made the king exceedingly riche. Moreouer, the brethren of Ioseph, being sente by Iacob their father to buy corne in Aegipt, not knowing their brother Ioleph, were by him sundrie times apprehended, and compelled to fetche their yonger brother Beniamin: and at the last Ioseph discouering himselfe vnto thÊ, caused them to fetche his and their Father into Aegipte, with all his familie, where they were honourably entertayned of king Parao and Ioseph. And Ioseph had there two sonnes, Effraim and Manasses, and Iued an hundred and tenne yeares. Ioseph signifieth increase, or a greate Officer. He died before the incarnation bout 1652. yeares.
