Cyprus, An yle in the sea called Carpathium, againste % country called Syria: on the north, it hath Cilicia: on the south, and the east Aegypt. It is in length, after the description of Strabo. 175. myles, after diii. furlongs to the myle: Some suppose it was at the sirste a portion of Syria, deuyded by earthquakes. This countrey aboundeth in wyne, oyle; mettal, ditriole, and canes whereof suger is made. Also Venns was there had in greate reuerence, in so much that men before they did set forth their daughters in maryage, offered them to such straungers as came into the countrey, to be by them deflowred, and aftermarde marryed them to Husbandes.
