Adrastus, A king of Argiues, whose daughter Argia was wedded to Polynices, the seconde sonne of Oedipus. And his other daughter called Deiphile, was wedded to Tydeus, sanne to the king of Aetolia. This Adrastus, raysed all the Greekes against the citie of Thebes, for to restore againe his Sonne in lawe Polynices to the Kingdome. But after that Polynices and Etecles, (being brothers) had slaine one the other, after many conflictes, the Thebanes slue downe right the Argiues, and did put to slight Adrastus, and slue his people. After that the Argiues had neuer bictorie in any battell: whereof came this prouerbe.* Adrastia nemesis, The euill lucke of Adrastus: which may be vsed where proud men be beaten, and as we say in Englishe, Pride will haue a fall.
