Herodes, The sonne of Antipater, which in the tenth yeare of Augustus, was of the Romains declared king of the Iewes: and he reigned 37 yeares. To win the fauour of the Iewes, he pulled downe the temple that after the captiuitie was builded by Zorobabell, Iehosua, and Esdra, and with exceeding greate charges builded another to the figure and paterne of that which Salomon erected. That yeare % Christe was borne, he both killed all his wines kindred, and his owne two sonnes Aristobolus and Alexander, and also put to death the Phariseys that prophecied to him that his king dome should not long continue. Of that name were diuers other kinges, of whome Iosephus writeth aboundantly.
