Augustinus, The famous Doctor in Christes Church, borne in Affrike, in a Towne called Garhensis, was of suche ercellent witte, that in his childkood he learned al the seauen liberall sciences, without an instructor He was wondetful ly learned, speclallye in the doctrine of Plato: whereby hee was the rather indured to imbrace the Thristian faith. He fanoured the errours of the Maniehees: but by the continual prayer of his good mother Monica: & the per-swasion of sainct Ambrose, he was at last conuerted to the true faith. They both replenished with the holie ghoste, dyd sing togither the Psalme Tedeum, aunswering mutuallie the one to the other. Afterward in prayer, wryting, & Preaching, he so much prosited, that he was in great reuerence of all men, and wrote more bookes than euer did anye in the Church of the Latines. He liues 76. yeares, and was bishop 40. yeres, and died in the yeare of our Lord. 437.
